On February 24th, Hindu nationalist mobs fell on some parts of India's capital, New Delhi, and caused destruction for four days, targeting Muslim businesses and homes. More than 50 people were killed and many were injured in the riot.
As a result, shops and houses that belong to Muslims in that area were broken to bare bones. While the Hindu Business and houses are very largely intact. Remains of Muslim's possessions including fridge, tv, cars, etc were scattered along the neighborhood's narrow lane. One local mosque was burnt down to the ground, while the other mosque that looked unaffected from outside also found charred and broken.
The unrest started after a long protest against Citizen Amendment Act CAA by Muslims in Delhi was attacked by Hindu mobs.
Although the protest was peaceful and nothing to with Pakistan. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah implied the protesters were anti-India and pro-Pakistan. Modi called the protest a conspiracy against his government.
Most people compared the Delhi attack with other communal violence, as in 1984 massacres of Sikhs and the 2002 programs against Muslims in Gujarat. Both Sikh massacres in 1984 and Muslims massacre in 2002 started in response to atrocities committed by the members of targeted communities, but this time it is different because Muslims had done nothing, they were just protesting peacefully against CAA.
This time, Muslims were punished, only for being Muslim and asking to be Indian.
The future of minorities is even darker and frightening in India than ever before.
